Poly(propylene glycol) 1000 is a polyether diol with a nominal average molecular weight of 1000. It is built from propylene oxide chains with a hydroxyl group at both ends. Polyols of this grade are among the most common in polyurethane chemistry, because the chain is long enough to act as a soft segment. In the laboratory, PPG 1000 is used to make elastomers, prepolymers and block copolymers. It is also a base ingredient for formulations that need a flexible liquid polyether.
At this molecular weight, the polypropylene oxide chain becomes noticeably more hydrophobic. Its solubility in water is therefore usually lower than that of lighter grades, but it still mixes well with organic solvents. Because it has less hydroxyl per unit mass, the networks it forms have longer distances between crosslinks. This makes the resulting polymers more elastic. The material is a viscous liquid that is still easy to weigh and mix, which makes it convenient for routine bench work and repeat syntheses.
In Indonesia, PPG 1000 is used in research on flexible foams, elastomers, sealants and adhesives. This work takes place in university laboratories and in industrial research and development departments. Researchers developing polyurethane systems, testing soft-segment chemistry or teaching polymer synthesis can use this TCI reagent as a reliable polyol. It supports exploratory formulation as well as more structured work on materials development.

- Polyurethane elastomer synthesis: the hydroxyl-terminated polyether chain is a flexible soft segment that reacts with isocyanates to give elastic, resilient polymer networks.
- Prepolymer preparation: the two hydroxyl end groups react predictably with excess diisocyanate to give isocyanate-terminated prepolymers for coatings, sealants and adhesive research.
- Block copolymer research: the defined polyether segment can be built into block structures to study how soft hydrophobic segments affect the final polymer's properties.
- Flexible foam formulation studies: its longer chain and lower hydroxyl content per unit mass give longer spacing between crosslinks, which suits investigations of soft, flexible foam behaviour.
- Sealant and adhesive development: its liquid form and good compatibility with organic solvents make it practical as a base polyol for testing flexible sealant and adhesive formulations.

| Storage | keep tightly closed in a cool, dry place |
Store Poly(propylene glycol) 1000 in its original tightly sealed container, or in a clean glass or compatible plastic container. Keep it in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight, heat sources and strong oxidising agents. Polyols can absorb moisture from the air, and water interferes with isocyanate reactions, so reseal containers promptly after use. When handling, wear standard laboratory personal protective equipment, including gloves, safety glasses and a lab coat. Clean up spills promptly, because the viscous liquid makes surfaces slippery. Always check the supplier's Safety Data Sheet for detailed hazard and disposal information before use.
