Functionality Creating Reagents — contains functional group activating reagents such as NHS esters, thiol compounds, and reduced phosphines used to introduce new reactive sites into biomolecules or polymers. This group bridges molecules that were initially unreactive so they can be covalently attached in a subsequent conjugation step.

Functionality Creating Reagents are used by bioconjugation and peptide chemistry researchers to activate carboxylic acid groups into active esters, reduce disulfide bonds, or add amine or thiol groups to proteins and fluorescent dyes. Reagents such as N-Hydroxysuccinimide and Tris(2-carboxyethyl)phosphine Hydrochloride are commonly used in the synthesis of labeling probes and the preparation of antibody-drug conjugates.
